Abstract

The Alps have always been a barrier for neighbouring states, but a resource, although illegal, forthose involved in smuggling, which was an important activity for years. In ravines and corridors, smugglers of the last century had drawn their secret paths, carrying on their shoulders bags full of cigarettes, sugar, coffee and other goods. Many testimonies of ex-smugglers recount their their activity and the risks they ran, often because of the mountain and not theFinancial Brigade. The natural park of Veglia Devoro is located exactly where smugglers once passed through. Indeed, we can easily reach it either from Italy or from Switzerland. The region is dominated by mount Leone, reaching 3.553 meters and has been a symbol since the 19th century. This area is mainly dominated by rivers, streams and lakes that appear in summer because of the melting snow.
