Abstract

A documentary on Gnawa music and the various myths that tell the origin of this art in Morocco, especially in the city of Essaouira . The program highlights the relation of Essaouira with Africa since the old times and how it embraced this art . Historical studies have demonstrated that the arrival of African slaves to the city was due to the fact that the city is located in front of the island, which was adopted by the Phoenicians as a station on their way to south Africa. The program presents many examples of this music played with modest musical instruments and distinct tones that are unprecedented . Presentation of some Moroccans who have adopted and preserved this art, as well as those who have participated in its evolution with new mechanisms and special touches.
