Abstract

Because of its geographical location on the Atlantic coast,at the mouth of the river Bouregreg, the city of Salé was an important center for all the Mediterranean civilizations. The history of Salé, as a town , is related to the arrival of Beni-Achra family from Andalusia, who built huge constructions and palaces. Since then, the city developed in both cultural and architectural fields. The fences surrounding it with doors, the high towers as well as the great mosque dating back to over a thousand years ago, show the evolution of the city.
