Abstract

The episode is about "zenabil"; traditional baskets placed on the backs of donkeys to transport crops and any other goods, except liquids. These baskets, made of alfa and palm fronds, are very strong and light, and differ in size. The town of "Dar-Chabane" in the province of Nabeul and the region of El Djarid, South of Tunisia are famous for this craft. To make "zanabil", the size of the basket is designed then the palm fronds are woven by hand in the form wanted. This takes a long time and requires efforts, that is why it does not attract young people and remains a monopoly of a few artisans.
