Abstract

The art of engraving on wood is one of the authentic creative arts with aesthetic characteristics inspired from ancient civilizations. This traditional handicraft requires a high sense of precision and a great deal of patience; the piece of wood is treated with chisels and hand or electric drilling tools according to precise designs to decorate the furniture. This art became so popular among Tunisians and tourists that it appears not only on traditional furniture but also on modern one. The art forms engraved on tables, armchairs and other furniture are filled with several materials such as copper and silver which gives it a great artistic value.
