This documentary deals with the history, the creation and the importance of the railways between the cities of the north of Tunis. Identification of the main railway lines, the cities they connect (Tunis/Gherdimou, Tunis/Bizerte, Tunis/ Mateur/Joumine) and the history of their creation. The functions of the lines differ, some of them are dedicated to the carriage of goods, others are used to carry passengers, and another part works for the shipping farming goods delivered around the country. The documentary also shows how the settlers used the lines to ease the exploitation of the resources in the north of Tunisia. The creation of these railway lines and their use have contributed to the fast urbanisation of the neighbouring cities. After the indepedence, the rail lines stopped working not only because of the lack of maintenance or degradation of the rail lines but also because of the use of wrong equipment and big trucks for the carriage of goods and farming goods. The audiovisual document is ending with an meeting with a Tunisian investor who is trying to turn an old station into a touristic entertainment resort.Type
