Abstract

Monastir was an ancient Phoenician colony formerly known as Prospina. Founded by immigrants of Sour at the end of the 6th century BC, precisely in 509 BC. The agreement between the Carthaginians and the Romans took place that year and mentioned its foundation. Julius Caesar will use it later as a military base. Nowadays, Monastir is one of the most important city in Tunisia. Situated at 24 km from Sousse and at 80 km from Kairouan, Monastir receives approximately half a million permanent residents and thousands of tourists each year. This documentary shows some historic sites of the city: the Bourguiba mosque, the Hnafya mosque, the Ancient Monastir mosque and the sanctuary of Imam Mazari.
