Abstract

A documentary series that aims to show the impact of the flamenco on Catalan history, tradition and culture. The first episode reviews the history of flamenco music and dance in Catalonia and the other episodes focus on different elements of the tradition: flamenco voices (el cante), flamenco guitar (el toque), flamenco dance (el baile) and the different flamenco rhythms (los palos). The last program focuses on the Catalan rumba, the last urban rhythm to emerge in the 20th century. This episode offers a simple and clear introduction to the basic flamenco "palos" with explanations and performances by Chicuelo, Miguel Poveda, Mayte Martín, Duquende, Ginesa Ortega, Montse Cortés, Cañizares, José Luis Montón and other flamenco artists.
